With an irrefutable desire to create since childhood, Sam found his safe space in the art room at secondary school, and finished his formal education attaining a first class degree in Fine Art : Sculpture at Falmouth University.
At that early stage of his creative development, a desire to keep his work out of the gallery space prompted a move to London where the serendipitous discovery of set design resulted in a short stint in fashion photography set design, followed by a more intentional move into the world of TV commercials and music video set design.
As an Art Director Sam teamed up with fellow Falmouth Alumni, Arthur De Borman, creating
SAM + ARTHUR and branched out into commercial interior design, and sculpture design, on top of designing sets and props.
After working with big brands such as Nike, Ikea, Vans, Smirnoff, Guinness, Matthew Williamson, and Preen, and following the natural end to the creativity of SAM + ARTHUR, Sam spent 2 years working as an interior architect for Custom, an Isle of Wight based company, re-designing architectural interior layouts for high end ski chalets in Val d’Isere and Meribel in the French Alps.
In 2017 Sam moved back to his spiritual home of Cornwall, and after a 5 year hiatus doing life, getting married, Covid, and bringing two children into the world, in 2022 Sam embarked on his newest incarnation.
Finally accepting his role, as much as an Artist, as a Designer, Sam is making practical sculptures, in the form of small wooden buildings for wild living, working and playing.
Alongside a fascination in high mobility buildings, particularly using architectural reclamation, and traditional carpentry skills, Sam is developing the context of his work in relation to the wider canon of experimental architectural design, and his work aims to inhabit the gallery space as adeptly it can the great outdoors.
